       Before joining the staff of Stranmillis, Sheelagh Carville had previously been a Nursery School teacher, Acting Principal of a Nursery School, and formerly held the positions of Field Officer for the BELB & SEELB for the area of Early Years. Her qualifications are listed as: BEd, PGDipEd, MEd, ILTM.

             Sheelagh Carville has completed research projects investigating: Student learning through video-conferencing
             Diversity in Early Years Education in a North/South context
             The provision of Language Development Programmes in the age range 0 - 36 months in Northern Ireland
             She undertook research with colleagues into Effective Pedagogy in the Republic of Ireland.
      
Research Interests
             Sheelagh is embarking on doctoral study on Higher Education enhancement with the University of Lancaster

Responsibilities

       Sheelagh Carville maintains oversight of the ECS degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Belfast, Omagh & Monaghan. She sits on the Academic Leadership Team within the University College. She manages a consortium of all six Regional Colleges in Northern Ireland, as they deliver a Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies, acting as QUB University Co-ordinator She represents the University College at Central Committee level at QUB for Collaborative Provision. She is a member of the DHSSPS Childcare Partnership Regional Training And Workforce Development Group.

External Interests / Community Service

       Sheelagh Carville maintains a strong interest in the field of nursery education in Northern Ireland and is a member of a Nursery School Board of Governors. She has held External Examiner positions for the BA (ECS) degree programmes at a number of Higher Education Institutions in the UK.
