Curriculum Studies

Curriculum Studies is interrelated with the other components of the BEd Primary programme and provides a basis of understanding for professional and personal development.  It not only provides knowledge and understanding in a range of areas of the Northern Ireland Curriculum but through its modules develops students' intellectual, practical and transferable skills.

More modules are taught in Years 1 and 2. Fundamental to the BEd programmes are modules in Literacy and Numeracy, Special Educational Needs and Inclusion.  However, the Curriculum Studies modules also help students to become familiar with the full range of Areas of Learning which are core to the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum.

These are:

The Arts;

Language and Literacy;

Mathematics and Numeracy;

Personal Development and Mutual Understanding;

Physical Education;

The World Around Us;

Religious Education.

The Curriculum Studies modules provide students with the skills needed for the competent planning, delivery and evaluation of lessons and topics within the various Areas of Learning.  Students will be encouraged to adopt an active learning approach and themes common within primary classrooms will be explored.
