Post Primary CPD Online Course

Course Overview

The overall aim of this whole-school online CPD course is to help teachers to build on their understanding of difficulties in literacy development. The course is designed to:

  • develop each teacher’s competence and confidence in their ability to meet the needs of students with literacy difficulties;
  • help teachers to identify students’ literacy strengths and to address their difficulties.
  • engage in reflection and professional discussion with colleagues in the context of their own school.

This practitioner-focused course has online sessions in which the whole school can participate at a CPD level with no assessment requirements. There is optional engagement by individual teachers to enrol for EDC9093, and obtain the first Masters module from the M-level specialist option ‘Teaching Children with Specific Literacy Difficulties’.

Factors Affecting Literacy Development and Examination Access Arrangements: CPD645

This course can be undertaken by teachers in your school in a group session providing a platform for whole school staff development in the area of difficulties in literacy development. Your school can engage with this course at a CPD level. There is, however, the opportunity for individual staff members to enroll and undertake the full 30 CAT point Master’s module (EDC9093). This will give these teachers entry to the Master’s specialist option ‘Teaching Children with Specific Literacy Difficulties’ (Master’s module fee applies).

All of the modules in this specialist option are accredited by the British Dyslexia Association and can lead to the awards of Approved Teacher Status and Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association from the BDA ,for successful candidates.

Teachers who attend all elements of the online CPD course are awarded an attendance certificate. This certificate provides evidence that the holder has participated in a dyslexia-friendly CPD course. This can be used as evidence of appropriate CPD for schools who are seeking to obtain a Dyslexia Friendly quality mark from the BDA.
