Staff and students savour the delights of Healthy Eating
Tues 16 Oct 2007

If you happened to be one of the 100+ people who attended the popular cookery demonstration with Michelin Star chef, it would have been apparent that it is possible to produce exciting and healthy food without the use of butter, creams and overuse of salt.

The demonstration, sponsored by the Student Support Centre and Staff Development, certainly indicated that eating well doesn’t mean a life with a lettuce leaf and a dry piece of toast.

Michael Deane demonstrated seven simple, nutritious and exciting meals with the audience having an opportunity to sample them.  Several members of the audience won food hampers and vouchers to help them recreate the delicious recipes at home. If you were unable to attend the event and would like any of the recipe cards or healthy eating literature, please contact Ciara Matthews in the Student Support Centre on 028 9038 4446.

The Cookery Demonstration marked the start of a new academic year and reiterated to staff and students that healthy eating combined with regular exercise is key to maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. A new ‘Walking Club’ programme will commence on Wednesday 31st October leaving from the Main Building entrance at 1.00pm.  Contact the Student Support Centre for more information.

There will also be further Health Awareness Weeks covering issues such as Smoking, Stress, Alcohol and Cancer over the coming months.
