Early Years Centre

The Early Years Centre has a workshop area which facilitates the integration of both theoretical and practical perspectives on suitable approaches to working with young children.Children painting

The Workshop contains a wide variety of commercially produced material for the implementation of play based activities and is in tune with recent curriculum development work in this area.

The Early Years Centre is used by tutors and their students to facilitate the organisation of practical sessions which enhance the student’s understanding and competence in relation to the management and organisation of early learning.

Through their participation in these workshop sessions students are encouraged to devise interesting and challenging programmes of work to promote children’s competence in the broad range of subjects of the Northern Ireland Curriculum within the Primary school, and of the developmental areas of the Pre-School Curricular Guidance Material used within the Pre-School sector.

The various resources within the Centre can then be used to prepare students for the practical implications of planning lessons and activities within classrooms and centres for children in the age range of 0 to 8 years.

The Early Years Centre is, therefore, unique within the University College, serving as it does, the needs of our Early Years student population through planned teaching sessions, facilitated by course tutors, and also through student's preparation for School or Centre based work placements
