Sponsorship, Gifts and Donations
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela
For almost 100 years, Stranmillis University College has been transforming the lives of children, young people and communities through excellence in teaching, scholarship and research - driving and leading innovative, research-informed best and next professional practice that is shaping education locally, nationally and internationally; unlocking potential and ensuring that children and young people have the best possible start in life; and building better futures and impacting the lives of individuals, communities and society as a whole.
Sponsorship, legacies, gifts and donations can help us fund life-altering educational research; provide support for exceptional young people to access and benefit from a world-class education, regardless of their background; or develop our campus as a innovative centre for intergenerational and community learning. Areas of support include:
Research
Almost every walk of life is impacted by education. The future success of very business, every community, every economy, every society relies on a pool of talented people. Giving every child and young person the best start in life and the opportunity to maximise their potential are paramount. Over 70% of our educational research was recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent in the Research Excellence Framework (2014). In critical areas of education, such as educational underachievement, bullying and cyberbullying, special educational needs, early years education and playful learning, our research, scholarship and teaching is making an impact on the lives of children and communities here in Northern Ireland and around the globe. Research sponsorship and funding can help undertake life-altering educational research.
Professional Development
Teaching is a highly dynamic environment and our research is shaping educational policy and best and next practice. How children are taught today, how we tackle underachievement, how we maximise the potential of children with special educational needs and disabilities is constantly evolving, and teachers and educational professionals need to continually refresh their knowledge and skills through career long professional development. Funding shared professional development days for local schools or learning partnerships, supporting teachers through master’s study or supporting a professional and intergenerational learning initiative are just some of the ways you can help make every school a good school.
Bursaries and Scholarships
Many talented young people face significant barriers that stop them from accessing higher education or postgraduate opportunities – to the detriment of the individual, families and communities. Bursaries and scholarships can help remove some of those barriers. Teachers and educators touch the lives of every single person. Those that accessed higher education through the support of a bursary or scholarship go on to be huge advocates of the importance of education, motivating and inspiring others to unlock their potential and not let barriers beat them. As part of our widening participation activities, Stranmillis offers a range of bursaries and financial support, but much more could be done. Through the creation of a new bursary or scholarship, your support can have a transformative effect on individuals and communities.
Intergenerational Learning
The Stranmillis campus is a stunning conservation-designated EcoCampus that is open to all. As part of our outdoor learning initiative, and our plans to make the campus a community and intergenerational learning hub, the College plans to create an innovative learning outdoors centre that, in addition to being used as a unique teaching resource, will act as a shared resource for schools, community groups, charities and educational organisations. Your support or sponsorship can fund equipment, greenhouses or the creation of trails and learning areas.
