AFFORDABLE STUDENT LIVING
Stran Halls offers affordable, hassle-free student living, with a catered accommodation package that allows you to live well within the maximum living away from home Maintenance Loan.
Stran Halls’ six halls of residence provide 411 comfortable single occupancy rooms, with a choice of shared or en-suite bathroom facilities. Rooms are fully furnished with:
- Bed
- Wardrobe plus lockable cupboard and bedside unit
- Study desk, lamp, swivel chair and shelving
- Curtains
- Wash hand basin, mirror and shaving socket
- 2 electric sockets
Living with friends: If you and friends want to live together you can apply as a group.
Every flat has its own communal kitchen, equipped with a fridge, freezer, microwave combi (grill, oven and microwave functions), toaster, and a mini oven with two hobs

Stran Halls provides a catered package, taking the hassle out of shopping, cooking and washing up, leaving you more time for socialising and studying. A catered package includes a cooked breakfast and 3-course evening meal (Monday to Thursday) and cooked breakfast and lunch (Friday). Catering is provided five days a week during term-time in Chatz Restaurant – a versatile self-service restaurant which offers wide screen television and wireless internet connection. An excellent choice of meals, designed by our head chef, ensures a varied and balanced menu.

Stran Halls pricing couldn’t be simpler. All you have to do is choose whether you want a single standard or single en-suite room.
Standard Room: £140 per week
Ensuite room: £170 per week

What accommodation is available?
Stran Halls offers you the option of single en-suite and single standard rooms in flats of up ten residents.
When do I apply?
Applications for the 2026/27 academic year are will open soon. Applications are welcome from students from all higher education institutions however applications from Stranmillis University College first year students will be prioritised. Applications are considered, subject to availability, on a first-come, first served basis therefore early booking is strongly recommended.
Do I need to make an upfront payment at the time of application?
Yes. A £200.00 pre-payment is required at the time of application. The £200 pre-payment is fully refundable up to the point you accept a contract for accommodation. The £200 pre-payment will be deducted from the final instalment of your accommodation fees.
Important information regarding the payment of the £200 via the College E-Shop

The £200 pre-payment should only be made immediately before you submit your online application – you will need to note the order/receipt number when submitting your application.

It is important the student applicants’ details are used when making the £200 pre-payment. If the applicant is using their own credit/debit card to make payment they will be asked to provide their name, address and email on the BILLING section of the online shop.

If the applicant is using e.g. a parents card then the applicants detail should also be recorded on the SHIPPING section of the online shop (the cardholders details can be noted on the billing section).
What are the payment options?
Residents can choose to pay for their full contract period up front either in full, or by Direct Debit instalments in line with the student loan dates. Direct Debit instalments are payable 40% (October) 40% (January) and the remaining 20% in April. The £200 pre-payment is automatically deducted from the final Direct Debit instalment.
How long is the contract?
Contracts are for 40 weeks, including Christmas and Easter holidays. This means that students do not have to move out their belongings if they return home for the holidays. All the accommodation is open during the holidays therefore students can come and go as they please.
Can I stay during the summer?
Requests for summer accommodation may be considered subject to availability.
Do you have rooms for students with mobility impairments?
We have four en-suite rooms which are located on the ground floor. Reasonable adjustments can also be made for students with specific mobility issues. Please ensure you make the team aware of your requirements at the earliest opportunity/via your application.
Are Halls only for first years?
No – students from any academic year of study and any institution can apply for accommodation in Stran Halls.
Who do I contact if I need help?
During office hours – 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm Fridays. Please contact the Halls Office Reception (based at the Refectory Building) on 02890 384 251.
Outside office hours or in the event of an emergency –Security is available 24/7/365 on 07850 712 556
What happens if I can’t pay?
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact us as soon as possible for advice and support.

What do I do if I break or lose something?
If you lose your keys, ID card or something breaks/stops working in your accommodation please let us know asap.
Replacement keys and ID cards are available from the team at Halls reception. Maintenance issues can be flagged via an online reporting form.
