‘Verily the Party of God are they that shall be triumphant’. ‘The Party of God’, known internationally as Hezbollah, are a Lebanese based Shi’a movement that are sponsored by Iran. Founded in 1982 as a result of Israel’s invasion of Lebanon, are dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Iranian oriented Islamic State within Lebanon. This course will introduce the political party and militant group, the historical context for their emergence and its ideological development. Furthermore, it will explore Israel’s perspective and response, the regional implications of the conflict as well as the prospects for resolution and future scenarios. This course is suitable for beginners and those with no prior knowledge of the subject.
