OVERVIEW

All of our courses are research-informed and designed to address important issues of contemporary relevance both locally and globally.

In learning and teaching we adopt a variety of current methodologies to promote full participatory engagement. Our Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas, facilitates valuable digital learning and offers helpful, comprehensive learning resources for each course. Classes in college are interactive and there are opportunities for collaborative work as well as whole class discussion and debate. Many of our courses involve educational and cultural visits that enrich and enhance student learning.

Our College library offers an excellent range of books, journals and on-line resources. The library team is at hand to help you with advice on using the library services or finding research information for your studies.

Our College is characterised by the warmth and excellence of the relationships between students and staff, and the high-quality teaching of our academic faculty is regularly commended by students as ‘engaging’ and ‘well organised’.

WORK-BASED PLACEMENT

On a teaching placement, you will gain valuable practicum experience in a local school where you will assist in the planning, preparation and delivery of lessons to pupils. You will be supported in the classroom by the supervising teacher. Classroom experiences are offered in Nursery, Primary and Post Primary schools . We are also able to offer Special School placements for those students on Special Education programmes.

For education students with limited classroom experience in your home country or students completing degrees in other subjects, it is possible to undertake a teaching assistantship in a local school. This placement gives you the opportunity to gain experience working with children in a classroom setting, providing support to the class teacher and working with small groups of pupils to facilitate learning.
