WELCOME

We are delighted that you have applied to Stranmillis University College and congratulations on being offered a place on one of our courses. We look forward to welcoming you onto campus in September to begin an exciting journey as part of the Stran community. Before that, there are a number of questionnaires and forms that you need to complete.

Important Information for New Students

Our Important Information for New Students section provides a wealth of valuable information and advice, milestones and contacts that you may find helpful over the coming months, and will be updated regularly.

INFORMATION REQUIRED

Nobody enjoys filling in multiple forms, but before you start your Stranmillis journey, there are a number of important forms and questionnaires that you must complete. We have tried to make this as simple as possible. To ensure that you have filled in and returned all the relevant forms for your course and individual situation, please download our New Student Admissions Checklist.

Timetabling Information for 2023/24

Please note that student timetables will be finalised over the summer.  Individual personalised timetables will be made available via the Timetable Portal.   You will have access to the Timetable Portal during your Induction when you will receive your login details for the student intranet.

When personalised timetables have been published, it is very important that you check them on a regular basis as it is possible that amendments/adjustments may still take place.

Questionnaires should be completed and submitted electronically as soon as possible.

Access NI consent and qualification verification - all students

You have been offered a place on a course leading to a post which is governed by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 . It is College policy to ask for the relevant Enhanced check to be carried out by Access Northern Ireland.  All students must consent to the Enhanced Access NI check and provide suitable identification documents.  Further details on how and when to submit the check and pay the fee will be provided in August if you are successful in gaining a place.

Student Support - all students

At Stranmillis, our aim is to ensure that all students have access to the appropriate information, support and facilities to enable them to participate fully in all aspects of College life. This can be done most effectively if we have an understanding of any special requirements you may have, including any Health & Safety consequences associated with a disability or medical condition.

All students must complete and submit the Occupational Health and Student Support questionnaires below. Please detail as much information as possible regarding any condition(s) and include any recent medical letters or reports if available. All information is treated in the strictest of confidence and is only used by Student Support or Occupational Health to plan appropriate support for you. Placement Questionnaire - BEd Primary and Post-primary students only

As part of your degree programme, you are required to undertake day visits, an observation week and a 7-week block placement in Year 1. To facilitate the Placement Team securing your school-based work placement, you must complete and submit the BEd Primary and Post-primary School-based Work Placement questionnaire below no later than 18:00 on 19 June.

As part of your degree programme, you are required to undertake placements in Year 1. To facilitate the Placement Team securing your placements, you must complete and submit the Early Childhood Studies Placement questionnaire below no later than 18:00 on 19 June.

Fees and Finance - all students

You must advise the College about how you will pay for your tuition fees.

All students must complete the ‘Tuition Fees – Finance Declaration’, confirming course details, fee amount and payment method.

Please complete and return the appropriate forms i.e. Tuition Fees – Finance Declaration and Direct Debit Instruction (if applicable) as soon as possible.

ECS forms - BA Early Childhood Studies Year 1 students only (not applicable to students articulating to Year 2 from FD)

It is a requirement of the Early Childhood Studies (ECS) degree that students undertake a number of placements each year of the course. It is a legal requirement that students undertake several checks and, as such, must complete and return all of the documents below.

Health Declaration / Medical Reference

This document must be completed, signed and stamped (with the surgery stamp) by your GP. It is important to note this could take a few weeks, so please contact your GP as soon as possible to ensure you can meet the deadline for return of documents

Healthcare Trusts Consent for Checks

Student are required to gain clearance before working in a Trust setting. Please complete and return the Health Trusts Consent for Checks declaration.

References 

Students are required to obtain two references as to their suitability of working with children.  The referees should be someone who has known them in a school, work or voluntary setting and should not be family members or close friends.

Student Accommodation - students applying for Stran Halls accommodation only

Living in halls can be one of the best and most memorable experiences of your life. Stran Halls offers a unique, affordable student living package; the only halls accommodation that allows you to live within the maximum living away from home maintenance loan. To make the most of your time at university, we would highly recommend staying in Stran Halls.  All accommodation in Stran Halls, which is open to students studying at any university or college, is in single occupancy, catered accommodation with a choice of en-suite or standard rooms.  If, at any stage, Halls are closed due to government advice, the College, as it has done in the past two academic years, will offer students a rent pause from their residential contracts for the period of closure without penalty to ensure that they do not suffer financially.

Halls Accommodation Bursary

In 2023-2024 the University College is offering successful applicants a Halls of Residence Bursary. The Halls of Residence Bursary equates to a ‘50%’ reduction in Halls Fees (standard room).  There are a limited number of Halls Bursaies available and application is open to all FULL-TIME Undergraduate students attending class on the Stranmillis campus. The assessment criteria is outlined within the form.  Please note the 50% reduction is applicable to the costs associated with the rental of a standard room.
