At Stranmillis we have 9 great clubs and societies which are the life and soul of campus. Joining a club or society is a sure way to meet new people, practice a current hobby or pick up something new all while having a great time. The best part is, you can join as many clubs and societies as you want!
To find out more about the where and when of each of our clubs and societies you can check out their Instagram pages or email the captain or president.
How to create your own club or society
We would love to hear your ideas for new clubs and societies! All you need is a list of 10 people willing to join your society and that’s you off and running. As per the SU constitution, your club will run for one year without funding and once this year is over you will be eligible for funding. However, speak to President Andrew Irwin and he can advise you on how you can be supported during your first year!
Stranmillis GAA
@stranmillis_gaa
Welcome! Stranmillis GAA is a brilliant club to get involved with, whether you’re an inter-county star, just play club ball or have never even kicked an O’Neills. We will be delighted to have you on board! Our main goal is to build friendships and have the craic while playing. We want to ensure that everyone, regardless of level can showcase their talent and build upon their skills. Stran GAA is well known for being one of the liveliest clubs on campus, with a thriving social scene. We are more than just a football team – we’re a community where people build lifelong friendships. If there is enough interest, we can attend hurling and camogie blitzes too. Our club is run for students by students. We will confirm exact training days and times very soon. Give us a follow on Instagram or Facebook to keep up to date with our club. We look forward to meeting you all. Here’s to a great year of football!
Scholars’ Rugby
@kingsscholarsrfc
Welcome to Kings Scholars Rugby Football Club! Scholars is a brand of rugby like no other, displaying nothing but “Joué” on and off the pitch. Although we are highly trained athletes we rarely (never) train. We like to conserve our energy for our matches which take place on the odd Wednesday afternoon. We are previous all Ireland winners and have finished runners up over the last 2 consecutive seasons in two very tight games. So there is a lot of competitiveness to look forward to if that’s your thing. If it’s not, don’t worry, Scholars do not take ourselves too seriously and just play for a bit of craic. We welcome all abilities of male rugby players, whether you play every Saturday or you’ve never touched a rugby ball before. If you’re interested please do not hesitate to contact (and follow) our Instagram page @kingsscholarsrfc. Joué x
Christian Union
@stranmilliscu
Stran CU exists on campus to allow every student the opportunity to hear and learn more about God! We meet on campus every Tuesday night at 7pm. It’s a great way to connect with others on campus, and you can be sure of a warm welcome and a cuppa! There are also a range of activities throughout the whole year from hikes and zumba to beach nights and Worship Rooms – plenty to look forward to! Our hope is that if you have a faith you would feel encouraged to live it out boldly as you engage with the truth of God’s word. Whether you call yourself a “Christian” or not, we would just LOVE to get to know you personally and want you to know you are welcome to every and all of our events. We are super excited for the new year to start and to meet all of you freshers! Feel free to come along to all our events and get stuck into life at Stranmillis.
Drama Society
@stranmillispantomine
Every year, Stran Drama Society works towards a Pantomime performed in Novemeber/December, which this year is ‘Frozen’. It is one of the best places to meet new friends at uni and have lots of fun, whilst involving yourself in an unforgettable experience. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience is required! You can get involved with Backstage, Band, Cast, Chorus, Costumes, Creative, Front of House or Technical team. Each department is equally important. Therefore, whether you were born to be on stage or would rather work behind the scenes, we would love for you to join us. Commitment level depends on the department. If you can commit every Monday/Wednesday evening from September to December, then audition for cast/chorus. Band rehearses every Wednesday afternoon. If you would prefer more flexibility, then the other teams could be the one(s) for you. I promise you’ll have a ball! Don’t hesitate to contact me via the Instagram account or come and chat with me!
